Shifting the goalposts
A clerk from a nearby barrister's chambers (fat tie-knot, loud pinstripes) came in for a late lunch with a mate from Geordieland. As soon as they saw our four handpumps, they decided they'd have to have a pint of each. Unfortunately for them the goalposts keep shifting: two of the beers they tried have since run out and been replaced with other guests. To make good their pledge to have one of everything, they've just started working from left to right again.
When we opened for the day, the beers on offer were Tim Taylor Landlord, Purity Mad Goose, Otter Amber and Caledonian Double Dark. The Mad Goose and the Amber are gone, and Woodforde's Wherry and Exmoor Gold have taken their place.

Tried the Caledonian Double Dark. Superb. More of the same landlord!
Did these legal types have those Dickensian whiskers that you used to sport before seeing a picture of yourself at GBBF ?
As those lads became increasingly swayed by the beer, the chat became funnier (although thankfully not intolerably loud).
"Did ye knar ah met that Gazza once? Why aye man, ah wiz in the Godfather - a canny nice Italian restaurant in Ny'cassel, reet - an Gazza was in the bogs an ee was properly fucked, reet, sur ah dragged im oot, reet, then ah fucked off aal the lads who were givin him shit, then bundled im in a cab and w' went on the lash. Nee word of a lie".
That damn Prescotti!
He wasn't pissed, just tired after servicing me.
Had a pint of Caledonian Double Dark for the first time last night (it's their November seasonal beer). I wasn't that impressed, more of a dark, hoppy bitter than a stout I thought. Looks like I'm in a minority as usual though :-)
Matt, I don't agree with your view that it's like a dark, hoppy bitter, but I'm with you on being a little unimpressed.
I'm with you Jeffrey. Both in being unimpressed by it and it being wrong to describe it as a dark hoppy beer.
In my defence, it was at the end of the night after a few pints so maybe my descriptive capacities deserted me somewhat there. However, it certainly didn't have the roasty/coffeeish taste you expect from a stout (maybe that's me being a bit 'not to style'-ist as well) and the Target hops certainly seemed very much to the fore.
Well, I think we can all agree that it was definitely dark.
There speaks the ex-lawyer!
