St Austell Proper Job sold out in one session - and that was on the quietest day of the week. Tomorrow's guest ales are Lancaster Blonde (had it at Ye Olde Mitre recently, and can confirm it's worthy) and Titanic Chocolate and Vanilla Stout. The latter sounds funky and - judging by the aroma that filled the cellar when I tapped it - it suspect might taste a little strange too. But it comes from a brewery that's supplied us with excellent beers in the past so I'm keen to try it. My folks are in town tomorrow, so no doubt my old man will lash into both and make his views known.
Landlord and Harvey's are on sale too. Other beers in the cellar are Purity Mad Goose, Caledonian Double Dark, Moorhouses Pride of Pendle and Woodfordes Wherry.

Jeffery, give your dad my regards. I regret I wasn't still around London to buy him a pint or two, didn't miss him by too much though.

The Titanic Choc & Vanilla is a regular at the Trackside in Bury and I've had both good and not-so-good experiences with it. On a good day the chocolate is predominant and you get a lovely, well-balanced, creamy stout. On a not-so-good the vanilla comes screaming to the fore and makes the stuff taste like cheap, nasty toffee. Fingers crossed you've got a barrel of the former, there. If so I reckon you're in for a treat.
Must admit I didn't have high hopes for the Proper Job. I'm not a Tribute fan, though that may be psychosomatic; a physical manifestation of my wariness of all things Cornish. But I was proved quite wrong and the quick pint I’d intended changed into an almost leisurely pair. Still not sure about Cornwall though.
Proper Job is a very decent beer in my experience, both in cask and in bottle conditioned form. Good too to see a cask rattled through in one session.
