Farmer's Half
As usual, tonight's private party time, but I've had the rest of the day off. The early afternoon involved a very agreeable lunch in Lowlander, a Belgian brasserie on Drury Lane. The rest of the day's been devoted to some lounging and beerios up in the TV room.
Yesterday I tapped a cask of Shugborough Farmer's Half from somewhere in the Midlands. It's 4.8% golden ale that's chock-a-block with hoppy goodness. If the distributor's is to be believed, it was brewed in a tiny pilot plant in a stately home by the chaps at Titanic Brewery. I find that difficult to believe. If the batch size is so small, how can they afford to send casks my way? The pop I'm going to serve must have come from Titanic's kit in Stoke. No matter, it tastes bloody lovely. I've had a couple straight from the cask already. The couple who've chosen to hold their party here will have to tolerate a slightly tipsy landlord.

Tipsy — what a great word. Friendly and inebriated without being aggressive or soaked to the point of sadness.
Tried - and really enjoyed - Farmer's Half at the Belle Vue in High Wycombe the other week. I too am confused about the "sub-letting" the Titanic kit /premises, but the beer was well tasty.
The Lowlander isn't supposed to be a Belgian brasserie - it's supposed to a Belgian and Dutch cafe though you'd never know that by the extremely small and poor selection of Dutch beers - they don't even offer Ij beers anymore.
The food is decent though...
Jeff,
Good to meet you yesterday. Agree that the Farmer's Half is a good beer, but I have to say that you served up a stormingly good drop of Harvey's! Keep up the good wrok.
No beer is brewed at Shugborough any more for significant commercial sale. There was a time when it did but was all moved to Titanic in nearby Stoke. Shugborough Hall was once the home of Lord Lichfield before his untimely death.
There is a working Brewery there and small batches are brewed onsite for consumption onsite in thier restaurant. I used to work there in my holiday many moons ago - lovely stately pile near to Cannock Chase and Stafford...
after such a tight shedule & a heavy lunch in Lowlander it is better to have complete rest with some Beer.
