Pewter
I would never buy a pewter tankard myself, but I do own several of them. First off, there are those little ones I found in The Gunmakers' cellar. The guy I bought the pub off liked a flutter, and on race days he and his bro would serve Guinness and champagne in them. Then there's the pint jug, engraved with my initials and a message of goodwill, gifted to me by former colleagues in early 2007 when I left a job where I had a lot of good friends.
This evening my secretary from back then - who organised my leaving gifts - came in with some of the others to see the pub. I polished up her present and drank from it for the first time. It's something I'll always love (even if it does remind me of Real Ale Twats).

I got given one from Germany which I like. It does look slightly odd as it's got a lid but it keeps the sun off your beer.
I've got a beaut pint tankard that i was given as a token of life membership of a group I was involved in before I left London in 2007. It's a bit battle scvarred now, but I dig drinking from it.
Our local sailing club hands out series trophies culled from the commodores basement, real junk... lamps, vases, etc.
Last year my wife received a "junk" pewter tankard that even had her initials on it. It is now her go to home brew glass.
I like the tankard I have. Can't say I notice a difference drinking out of it, a pint pot or a glass.
Some people talk about wanting to see the beer but at the end of the day, as pretty as a fresh pint looks I'm there to drink it not look at it.
I hate metal cups. I endure them when camping. That is all.
Well when I go out with the morris men sometimes a tankard's necessary, as beer is offered when no glasses are available. Luckily I bought one in a drunken moment at GBBF a few years ago.
