Lively Minds

On Saturday we're hosting a fundraiser at the pub for Lively Minds, a charity set up by a friend of mine from uni. (We were, believe it or not, in a production of My Fair Lady together). It's a singles night. All the girls' tickets have been sold, but she needs more boys. So if you're one of those, you can sign up here. It's a tenner. There'll be single women. And ale. Best of both worlds, then.

The sun's out, so blogging would be foolish. So this is all I have for you right now. In other news, current guest beers at the pub are Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted and Triple fff Alton's Pride. Black Sheep Golden Sheep and Hopback Summer Lightning are coming up next. My cellar's so bloody brilliant that the temperature has remained at a lovely 12 degrees celsius down there despite the heatwave, so the beer's as cool and refreshing as ever. I wish I could say the same for other pubs in London, many of which become no-go areas for real ale as soon as the sun comes out.

What Heatwave?

It's barely 25 degrees

Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted seems to be all over at the moment - it's a lovely pint. I've not seen Golden Sheep before (despite living only 20 miles from the brewery).

Did you say you were going to send details of upcoming beers? Twitter? Would like to a time a visit to get a pint of Bitter and Twisted. Cheers.

Sladecross, I do indeed post on Twitter every time a new guest beer comes on - you can see the feed on the left hand bar of the blog, just below the Sponsors ads, or go direct to the source HERE.

Tim, this is a heatwave. Fact.

The Northerner, I don't think Bitter & Twisted is widely available in these parts, unless you count the bottled version in Waitrose. I certainly haven't seen it around.

Jeffrey this, charity that. I remember the days when this was a BEER blog. Actually, strike that - I remember the days when this at least pretended to be a beer blog. Now, Phil Collins style - no pretence needed so it seems.

I was all excited when I thought Lively Minds was a Simple Minds tribute act. For a tenner I might have gone for a giggle.

Jeffrey,

Bitter & Twisted (as well as Engine Oil and Scihallion and another I can't remember) has been seen out this way for the last few month tho' I'm sure the bottled stuff is nothing on the real deal.

Winter started over here on Monday. It was 22 degrees. PHEW!!

What is it about 'Dodgy Cellars' that causes hot day troubles for some pubs - is it humidity/heat/exposure or a combination?

Cheers

Personally, when the temperature goes up outside, i tend to tweak the temp of my cellar downwards just a little bit, say to 10c.

But this a a matter of personal choice. (i'm lucky to have cooling of any kind. Our cellar cooling had an emotional breakdown less then a month ago.... Shiny new compressor on the roof of the pub. Joy.)

It ought to be a criminal act not to have top-notch cellar cooling in any pub.

Fact.

I ran the idea of me flying over to London for the singles charity night past Mrs Showbizguru.
She laughed - eventually.

Who needs a celler when my local Asian friend has blind juice deep chilled for a single pound.

Beer Blokes, unlike some bottled beers, Bitter & Twisted (and Schiehallion for that matter) is also excellent from the bottle.
