Ploughman's
The sun is out and London's all sparkly and sexy again. Leaping into regulation baggy shorts and sunglasses (nice but not expensive), I hotfooted it out of the pub early doors to luncheon in someone else's gaff. Where better than my old local, The JT? Dan the chef whipped me up the best ploughman's I've had in my blimmin' life. I chased it down with a pint of Moravka. The sun streamed in through the windows. Life is good in Clerkenwell.

I've seen this called a Ploughman's, English tapas, British meze - but who the hell gives a damn, it's summer drinking food at its finest sir!
eww salad!
Beerand cheese: if there's a better drink/food combination, I'm not aware of it ...
That's the good stuff. I could've gone for some of that action at lunch today - sitting in a hot office staring at a tree was far from fun or thirst quenching.
Lager, even a fine British one, with Ploughmans? Sacrilege.
Like washing down a pack of fine pork scratchings with a glass of Muscadet.
I actually prefer Moravka to St Peter's session ales (although I do like those too) so it's pretty much all I drink in the JT these days.
I love lager. Lager lager.
beer and cheese and pickle wins! didn't realise the jt did moravka, wish they'd open at weekends for us foreigners heading over to london town for the weekend. the one time i made it there (thanks to this site) was a monday lunchtime, loved the food and the vibe of the place.

It's a simple idea: good lager, good beer. I like good beer. Give me good lager beer.
Although just now, I'd settle for another cup of coffee.
Don't be so modest about your own grub, the Mixed grill with fries (not chips!) was very good and all the better with the two Harvest ales that accompanied it.
Well worth the trip down from St. Albans. (which by the way, your pub crawl there a few years back is how I found your blog)
Evan, thanks for the kind words. I was sceptical when chef suggested a mixed grill, but his interpretation is a cracker: an excellent little steak, merguez sausages, a wee burger, a half beef tomato and plenty of salad with fries on the side. I had it myself for lunch. Lovely with half of Harvey's.
