Summer's end

In the absence of sunshine, Hop Back Summer Lightning brought some seasonal joy to our pub. We've sold countless casks of it over the last couple of months. It's even managed to bump my favourite beer - Timothy Taylor Landlord - off the bar at times. Now that the evenings are drawing in, it's time to give it a rest. The three barrels in the cellar will be our last for 2008, I think. This strong, hoppy godsend has been a good friend to me, but it's time to say goodbye.

The photo was taken outside my pub on Monday by my pal Ross. We enjoyed those pints of Summer Lightning just after lunch. Afterwards we set off for a city-spanning pub crawl through Holborn, Borough, Greenwich and Blackheath.

Frost may have nipped at the tomato plants last night. Time for porter.

Not forgetting the lovely, slighty darker and warming hues of Old Rosie. ;-)

Roll on Fuller's London Porter! Can't wait.

Incidentally, one of the Fuller's guys manning the bar at GBBF told me they've been trialling London Porter on keg!

Hi

When is Fuller's London Porter released?

I tried Fuller’s London Porter on keg at the Doric Arch in June and it was phenomenal.

Fullers porter is while off innit. Think Summmer Lightning is good and strong enough to last out more than just the summer nights. Don't let the name fool you!

Fullers' London Porter is also available at the Jugged Hare on Vauxhall Bridge Rd. Is it really keg? It was bloody marvellous.

Nice pic.

well Summer Lightning certainly sounds tasty..for us readers in the U.S. could you folks let us know what kind of hops are used to give it that level of hoppines?

Cheers!

Keg London Porter is sold at The Crown on Cloudesey St in N1 too. It's great.

Fullers have just sent out their press release about their cask seasonals for Autumn. Red Fox will be coming back for October, followed by London Porter in November.

Brian, I'm pretty sure Hopback use East Kent Goldings and Challenger hops for cask Summer Lightning.

Kegged Fullers Porter has been here in the States for at least five years. Good stuff. It converted a brother of mine from industrial lager.

Although I am never a champion for drinking at home, preferring to visit the pub, my limited experience is that bottle conditioned Summer Lightning is as near as you can get to cask ale in a bottle.

Don't want to miss out on it this year.
